Obtaining a Residence Permit in Ukraine

Types of Residence Permits

There are two main categories of residence permits in Ukraine:

1. Temporary Residence Permit (Posvidka na tymchasove prozhyvannya): Issued for 1 to 3 years, depending on the legal basis (e.g., employment, studying, company formation, volunteering). It can be renewed as long as the underlying reason remains valid.
2. Permanent Residence Permit (Posvidka na postiynne prozhyvannya): Offers long-term residency rights and is typically available to close relatives of Ukrainian citizens, highly qualified specialists, or foreign investors.

Basic Requirements

While the exact documents depend on your specific situation, a standard application requires:

• A valid passport and a notarized translation into Ukrainian.
• A valid Type D Visa (Long-term visa) issued by a Ukrainian consulate.
• Proof of the basis for your stay (e.g., a work permit, university enrollment, marriage certificate, or company incorporation documents).
• Proof of medical insurance covering your stay in Ukraine.
• Payment of the state fee.

The Process

1. Gather Documents: Prepare all necessary paperwork, including translations and apostilles where required.

5. Register Your Address: You must register your residential address in Ukraine within 30 days of receiving your permit.
